Happy 17-Months!!!

Dresden, you are 17-months-old today, on Election Day!!!

Some fun facts about you right now:

  • You just recently completed the excavation of all four of your first molars. It was ba-RU-tal. But, the worst is over for now it seems, and you are the proud owner of TEN teeth! With these new pearlies, you are finding it much easier to chew "people" food, and coincidentally I think that is why you are now eating better - PRAISE the Lord! Seriously. Nothing stresses a momma out more than when her baby won't eat!
  • Speaking of eating, although you are doing much better - you are still a little beanpole. You STILL wear size 3 diapers. Which has sparked another controversy, because we need to get you Huggies Nighttime diapers, but they seem to only come in 4's, and they won't do any good keeping leaks from occurring if they are falling off of you anyway, now will they!? So keep shoveling it in please - cuz we are tired of washing your sheets EVERY day! Ha!
  • And, since I'm apparently obsessed with how much you weigh and it's all I've talked about so far, you weigh in at a whopping 23 pounds!!!
  • In clothing you are wearing mostly 18-month stuff, though some of your 12-month pants still fit (albeit in horrendous high-wateresque style that drives me crazy). Unfortunately your 18-month pants fall off of you. Oh well, it's nice to have room to grow into things, right? You wear size 5 shoes.
  • Your daily routine is to wake up at the unholy hour of 7:30 a.m., and we play (or you play while I sit and try and keep my eyes open) and eat breakfast for about an hour until Papa is ready to take you to the park. You go to the park usually til around 10:30, and then you are ready for your morning nap. If we are lucky you sleep for an hour and a half to two hours, and then you are ready for lunch. After lunch you play until dinner, no second nap usually (sigh). After dinner, I have been taking you on "nature walks" where we pick up leaves and sticks and see how they taste (well, you see how they taste, I say 'no thank you' when you offer) and feel, and we remark on airplanes passing overhead or "cahs" (cars) and "cucks" (trucks) driving by. After our walk, it's bathtime, followed by hanging out with the family until story time around 7:30. We read books ('You Are My I Love You', 'Guess How Much I Love You', 'Pajama Time', 'It's Time For Bed', to name the main ones), and you have your bedtime bottle, and then you are practically flipping out of my arms because you are ready to get in your crib and go to sleep (usually), by 8:30.
  • You LOVE to dance. You dance to any music that comes on, and it's the cutest thing ever (obviously!). It's funny when you get ahold of your dad's iPod and you just stand there boogie-ing to the music while you hold on to it.
  • Your vocabulary: clock, truck, car, mama, dada, hose, ball, bowl, yes, no (your favorite!), dog, 'neigh', 'moo', 'boo' (as in "Dresden, what does a ghost say?")...I may have missed some, but that's what comes to mind right now. You have a LOT of 'receptive language', meaning you understand even more words than you can actually speak. You can point to all your body parts (hair, eyes, nose, mouth, tongue, ears, back, belly button, arms, hands/fingers, legs, feet/toes), and you can point to many objects we ask you to show us in certain books (train, boat, flower, dog, cat, ball, shoes).
  • You LOVE the outside, you love your Thomas the Train toy, you love cars and trucks. You are all BOY! I love it. At the same time, when you are in the mood, you are the biggest sweetheart. If I ask you for "snuggles" you come and lay down next to me (for a few seconds, but oh how precious those few seconds are!). Also, if we hold our arms out and cry "Hugs!!! We need hugs!!!" you run full speed into our arms and hug us. It's awesome.
  • The funniest thing you do lately, which we have yet to catch on film (or whatever the modern-day equivalent to film is), is when you hear a noise you wonder about, you put your pointer finger up to your cheek and make an 'o' with your mouth like, "What could THAT be?!" It is hilarious. And we have no idea where you learned it because we didn't teach it to you. Which makes it even funnier.
  • The un-funniest thing you do lately is refuse to listen. You are very independent, and this sometimes extends into the realm of defiance (no bueno, amigo). When we try and make you do something you don't want to do (like put on pants or get in your high chair, for example), or take you away from something we don't want you to do (like run out into the cul-de-sac!), you fling yourself to the ground and turn red, or turn your back to us and refuse to look at us as we try and get your attention, clench your teeth, and scream/cry/whine or any combination of the three.
Other than that, you are basically just an awesome little boy who makes us laugh every day, and we love to watch as you learn more and more all the time. I am already so excited to see the magic of Christmas from your little eyes! You are my whole universe Dresden Grey, and I love you with ALL of my heart!!!
