Fort Worth Botanic Gardens

Through Groupon we got an amazing deal for a year's membership to the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens for really cheap, and when we went to redeem it, we found out the membership is good for 130 other botanic gardens nationwide, including the Dallas Arboretum! Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised! At first we thought we'd be racing against time because there was rain in the forecast, but in the end, we were racing against heat more than anything! 

We started out at the conservatory, where Dresden's hair immediately responded to the immense humidity! (see picture after this one)

There's those crazy curls we all know and love!

Unfortunately, most of these pictures are close up of Dresden so you can't really tell we were in any gardens...but as pictures of plants and flowers with no real context or action in them aren't all that interesting, you'll just have to imagine the flowers and plants with Dresden in/on/around/near them! :-)

Getting hotter by the minute!

"You said it is HOW hot out here?!"

"Mama, look at the Chinquapin Oak, latin name: quercus muehlenbergii! 

It's a member of the beech family. Most interesting, indeed!"

I think the above and below pictures are so great because he's almost camoflauged, haha!

After these pictures were taken we strolled through the Japanese gardens and saw carp the size of well-fed dachshunds or bigger.

Aren't they disgusting!?! Yuck. But I have to appreciate the way Alex caught them with their mouths open waiting for their dog food (which we did not actually have so they were promptly disappointed, poor ugly dachshund-carp!)

Dresden started quoting "Zen and the Art of Happiness", and then proceeded to fall sweatily asleep for a long time in his stroller while we sat in the shade and people-watched. We also saw a crazy little lizard digging for and eating bugs across the path from us. It was pretty funny.

I'm excited we have a membership now. 

Though, we may have to wait until December when it's finally cool enough to go again! Go figure, yesterday it was 94. Today, 49 - SERIOUSLY!?!
